Project overview

A cloud-native retail operations platform is replacing a decades-old AMOS backbone. The new system unifies catalog, pricing, orders, and warehouse workflows with modern APIs and AI that accelerate search, valuation, deduplication, and data hygiene—bringing real-time accuracy to a vast back-issue catalog.

Our objective is to retire brittle legacy processes and stand up a service-oriented platform that keeps inventory, pricing, and fulfillment in sync; reduce manual entry and reconciliation across web, warehouse, and customer service; and unlock analytics that guide buying, grading, and merchandising—delivered through phased releases that safeguard daily operations. As the largest comics retailer in the world, Mile High Comics requires speed, precision, and reliability at scale.

Scope of work

Following an audit of the legacy AMOS system and data stores, the modernization program implements a centralized system of record with event-driven services, AI-assisted search and pricing, and an API layer that powers both website and in-store integrations.

  • Cloud platform & APIs: Architect and operate a cloud-native, service-oriented platform for catalog, pricing, orders, and customers, exposed through REST/GraphQL for first- and third-party use.
  • Data migration & quality: Run pipelines that extract AMOS data, normalize creators/titles/variants, deduplicate and reconcile stock, and maintain full audit trails.
  • AI search & pricing intelligence: Apply AI for relevance ranking, metadata enrichment, variant grouping, anomaly detection, and market-aware pricing recommendations.
  • Warehouse operations console: Provide WMS-style tools for intake, grading, locationing, wave pick/pack/ship, returns, and label/manifest generation with exception workflows.
  • Performance & reliability: Enforce observability, RBAC, backups, and encryption, with blue/green or canary releases for zero-downtime deploys.
  • Change management: Govern releases, documentation, SOPs, and hands-on training to ensure smooth adoption across teams.

Key deliverables

  • Real-time inventory, order, and pricing services
  • Data migration toolchain with validation, deduplication, and rollback safeguards
  • AI utilities for search, variant resolution, and pricing insight
  • Warehouse console for end-to-end fulfillment visibility
  • Monitoring & security (logging, metrics, RBAC, backups, encryption)
  • Implementation playbooks and training materials

Technical challenges

Unraveling decades of AMOS business logic without interrupting sales, normalizing a massive catalog with inconsistent metadata, and sustaining real-time accuracy across warehouse locations, website listings, and service channels.

Project outcome

The modernization consolidates operations into one cloud platform, replacing legacy AMOS processes with real-time inventory, streamlined pick/pack, and API-driven integrations—while reliable data flows reduce manual fixes (−5 hrs/week) and keep web and warehouse in sync. Although not yet part of customer-facing features, AI is accelerating analysis of the 40+-year-old AMOS codebase, shortening reverse-engineering timelines and de-risking the migration to a modern, cloud-native architecture.

Let's get started.
